October at Naomi & Pearl
Awareness, Halloween & Día de los Muertos
October brings together very different kinds of moments.
It is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when families, survivors, organizations, businesses and communities recognize the people whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.
It is also Halloween season — costumes, monsters, pumpkins and a little harmless spooky fun.
And as October ends, families and communities begin preparations for Día de los Muertos, observed on November 1 and 2 and centered on remembrance, family and honoring loved ones who have died.
Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon Cookies
Our Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon Cookies feature awareness ribbons on our round cookies.
Rather than creating only one ribbon design, this collection includes ribbons in the different colors represented within breast cancer awareness. The design is intentionally simple, with the ribbon itself taking center stage.
These cookies can be used for awareness programs, survivor celebrations, employee events, fundraisers, community gatherings or simply as a meaningful way to recognize someone whose life has been affected by breast cancer.
We are also bringing back the Breast Cancer Awareness cookie set we created last year — a coordinated collection with a little more visual impact for dessert tables, programs and special events.
For some people, an awareness ribbon represents support. For others, survival, advocacy or remembrance. We want the desserts to respect the reason behind the ribbon.

Halloween at Naomi & Pearl
Of course, October also gives us permission to have some fun.
Our Halloween cookies range from nostalgic monsters and playful pumpkins to ghosts, creepy eyeballs, cauldrons and designs made for the grown-up Halloween party.
Halloween celebrations can look completely different from one event to another. A company may want seasonal desserts for employees or clients. A family may be planning a party. An adult costume event may call for something considerably creepier.
That variety is part of what makes Halloween such a fun season to design for. And yes, sometimes the occasion simply calls for Frankenstein on a cookie.
Día de los Muertos: Remembering Those We Love
As Halloween ends, another tradition begins.
Día de los Muertos — the Day of the Dead — is observed on November 1 and November 2. Although it falls immediately after Halloween, it is not simply another Halloween celebration.
Día de los Muertos is a tradition of remembrance.
Families may create ofrendas, or altars, honoring loved ones who have died. Photographs, candles, favorite foods, meaningful objects, flowers and other personal items may be included as part of that remembrance.
Some of the most recognizable imagery associated with Día de los Muertos includes colorful calaveras, or skulls, marigolds and papel picado.
The colors may be bright and joyful because the tradition is not simply about mourning. It is also about remembering lives, relationships, stories and the people who remain part of a family’s history.
Our Día de los Muertos cookies reflect that distinctive visual tradition with colorful sugar-skull designs created separately from our traditional Halloween collection.
They are especially suited for family gatherings, cultural programs, community celebrations, schools, universities and organizations recognizing Día de los Muertos.

Desserts for Different Kinds of Moments
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Halloween and Día de los Muertos are very different occasions.
One calls attention to an illness that has affected millions of families.
One gives us a chance to play.
And one carries generations of tradition centered on remembrance and love.
What they share is something we see again and again at Naomi & Pearl: people gather.
Sometimes they gather to support one another. Sometimes they gather to remember. And sometimes they gather simply because somebody threw a Halloween party.
Desserts become part of those tables, those conversations and those memories.
That is the part we love making sweeter.
